Engineer

About the job

At Reefy, we aim to change the impact of every underwater construction project, from negative to a positive, with three pillars: eco-engineering, nature-inclusive products, and impact monitoring.

As Reefy's Engineer, you’ll be part of the heart of our mission, being responsible of the execution of eco-engineering projects to find the best nature-inclusive solution for our clients, to support the commercial track where qualifying technically and support the proposals for our ReefBlocks is needed. You will need a good ear to identify from the market the needs and wants of prospects and clients through pre- and post-sales communication, therefore translating technical requirements into value-led proposals and helping to close deals.

This role is perfect for someone who is curious not only about engineering but in other disciplines, eager to learn, and excited to apply their coastal engineering skills in a dynamic start-up. You’ll be responsible of R&D, eco-engineering, and supporting the commercial track, helping Reefy upscale without compromising on impact or quality.

We are looking to grow the team with different combinations of levels of expertise. So don't be shy and apply independently of the years of experience as there are multiple options!

Here are some of your core responsibilities:

You’ll work closely with the team to:

  • Be responsible of R&D activities, including impact monitoring, wave tank experiments, and technical documentation;

  • Collaborate in subsidies/grants applications to support R&D activities that can solve global problems and increase the positive impact in underwater nature;

  • Be the bridge between the commercial aspect and technical requirements of a client or prospect;

  • Perform preliminary and detailed designs of coastal structures using an eco-engineering approach, this includes drafting configurations of breakwaters and estimating its stability and hydraulic performance;

  • Contribute to client projects by preparing calculations, technical drawings, reports, and proposals;

  • Be hands-on in solving challenges to upscale nature in every underwater construction project.

About you

You’re not just a great engineer, you’re a pragmatic thinker, a creative problem-solver, and an entrepreneurial team player. You know how to navigate the grey zones of innovation, and you thrive when things aren’t perfectly defined (yet).

  • A hydraulic/coastal engineer with a strong feel for real-world application;

  • You enjoy learning about other disciplines as well, to complement your engineering background with ecology and business;

  • Comfortable in B2B contexts: you speak both client language and technical logic;

  • You have experienced with software tools as XBeach, AutoCAD, QGIS, Python, and Sketchup;

  • You are comfortable coding to automate tasks, solutions, and calculations;

  • Proven technical knowledge for the design and implementation of coastal structures (submerged breakwaters, groynes, offshore scour protection). Candidate needs to be able to navigate often limited site data and calculate the life-time of a structure, stability limits, and wave dissipation for the desired performance of each project.

  • Great written and communication skills to work independently;

  • Strategic, but also hands-on — considering all interlinked aspects of each tasks (engineering, impact and business) and don’t mind doing new things;

  • Proficient in Dutch and English. Spanish language reading/writing is a plus;

  • Eligible to work / based in the Netherlands, and happy to join our team in our Delft office regularly.
