About the job
At Reefy, we don’t need an engineer to build everything but we do need one who knows exactly what matters most. As our Engineer, you’ll bring senior technical expertise to the table, while playing a crucial role in translating client and partner needs into feasible, valuable solutions.
In our fast-growing startup, real engineering is limited but essential. That’s why we’re looking for someone who’s not only technically strong, but who also understands the language of clients, sales, and operations. You’ll help us qualify opportunities, shape smart proposals (but commercially and in grants/subsidies), and ensure the technical foundation of our solutions is solid, without losing momentum on speed, scalability, and impact.
This is not a pure technical role. It’s a hybrid technical-commercial position, ideal for someone with engineering experience who enjoys being close to sales conversations, partner engagement, and operational delivery.
Here are some of your core responsibilities:
Assess technical feasibility of leads and proposals;
Independently coordinate and produce technical deliverables; including proposals, design reports, specifications, and tender documents;
Translate commercial opportunities into practical and scalable technical concepts;
Perform preliminary and detailed designs of coastal structures using an eco-engineering approach, this includes drafting configurations of breakwaters and estimating its hydraulic performance;
Serve as the bridge between clients, partners, and the Reefy team during tenders and projects;
Support project delivery with quick assessments, coordination and fit-for-purpose solutions;
Become the owner in the development of technical documentation and tools to support the team, lead generation, and our clients;
Advise the team on cost-effective, impact-driven solutions that work in the field;
Be the technical ‘sparring partner’ for the commercial team in B2B conversations;
Bring pragmatic energy — helping us move faster and more focused.
About you
You’re not just a great engineer, you’re a pragmatic thinker, a creative problem-solver, and an entrepreneurial team player. You know how to navigate the grey zones of innovation, and you thrive when things aren’t perfectly defined (yet).
A hydraulic/coastal engineer with a strong feel for real-world application;
You have more than 2y of experience in breakwater and/or offshore projects where calculations on stability and wave dissipation are evaluated;
Comfortable in B2B contexts — you speak both client language and technical logic;
Someone who enjoys variety: one week you support a sales proposal, the next you validate a product feature;
Able to work across teams (e.g. sales, operations, R&D) and push things forward without losing clarity;
You have experienced with software tools as AutoCAD, QGIS, and Sketchup;
Proven technical knowledge for the design and implementation of coastal structures (submerged breakwaters, groynes, offshore scour protection). Candidate needs to be able to interpret and calculate technical data like bathymetric studies, stability number, wave transmission, wave reflection, among others to design and determine if proposed structures have an adequate hydraulic performance for the project.
Great written and communication skills to work independently in deliverables;
Strategic, but also hands-on — you don’t mind creating a quick model or reviewing a calculation;
Team player, interaction with the team and other technical stakeholders is key to succeed in the role;
Spanish language reading/writing is a plus;
Passionate about the ocean, building with nature, sustainability, and innovation;

Based in the Netherlands, and happy to join our team in our Delft office regularly.
